چکیده

Traditional approaches to network supercomputing employ a master process and a large number of potentially undependable worker processes that must perform a collection of tasks on behalf of the master. In such a centralized scheme, the master process is a performance bottleneck and a single point of failure. This work develops an original approach that eliminates the master and instead uses a decentralized algorithm, where each worker is able to determine locally that all tasks have been performed, and to collect locally the results of all tasks. The failure model assumes that the average probability of a worker returning a wrong result is inferior to 1/2. A randomized synchronous algorithm for n processes and n tasks is presented. The algorithm terminates in Θ(logn) rounds, and it is proved that upon termination the workers know the results of all tasks with high probability, and that these results are correct with high probability. The message complexity of the algorithm is Θ(n logn), and the bit complexity is O(n log n).

Brief Announcement: A Randomized Algorithm for Label Assignment in Dynamic Networks

In large-scale networking environments, such as data centers, a key difficulty is the assignment of labels to network elements. Labels can be assigned statically, e.g. MAC-addresses in traditional Layer 2 networks, or by a central authority as in DHCP in Layer 3 networks. On the other hand, networks requiring a dynamic solution often use a Consensus-based state machine approach. While designing...

Optimizing Diamond Structured Automobile Supply Chain Network Towards a Robust Business Continuity Management

This paper presents an optimized diamond structured automobile supply chain network towards a robust Business Continuity Management model. The model is necessitated by the nature of the automobile supply chain. Companies in tier two are centralized and numerically limited and have to supply multiple tier one companies with goods and services. The challenge with this supply chain structure is th...

Brief Announcement: On the Time Complexity of Distributed Topological Self-stabilization

This brief announcement proposes a new model to measure the distributed time complexity of topological self-stabilization. In the field of topological selfstabilization, nodes—e.g., machines in a p2p network—seek to establish a certain network structure in a robust manner (see, e.g., [2] for a distributed algorithm for skip graphs). While several complexity models have been proposed and analyze...

Robust state estimation in power systems using pre-filtering measurement data

State estimation is the foundation of any control and decision making in power networks. The first requirement for a secure network is a precise and safe state estimator in order to make decisions based on accurate knowledge of the network status. This paper introduces a new estimator which is able to detect bad data with few calculations without need for repetitions and estimation residual cal...
